Creating a lifelong bond with your kids

A Story of Unbreakable Bond: The Story of Irena Sendler and Her Father

In the early 20th century, a young Polish girl named Irena Sendler grew up under the strong influence of her father, Dr. Stanisław Krzyżanowski. He was a physician who treated the poor and Jewish families in Poland, even when other doctors refused. When a deadly typhus outbreak swept through their town, Dr. Krzyżanowski continued to care for the sick, knowing the risks. Tragically, he contracted the disease himself and passed away when Irena was just seven years old.

Before his death, he imparted to her a lesson that shaped her entire life: "If you see someone drowning, you must jump in to save them, even if you don’t know how to swim." These words, filled with compassion and courage, became the foundation of her moral compass.

Years later, during World War II, Irena Sendler became a social worker in Nazi-occupied Poland. Seeing the horrors of the Holocaust, she risked her life to save Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto. Disguised as a nurse, she smuggled over 2,500 children out of the ghetto, hiding them in suitcases, ambulances, and secret passages. She gave them new identities to keep them safe, recording their real names in jars buried under an apple tree, hoping to reunite them with their families after the war.

When the Gestapo arrested and tortured her, breaking her legs and feet, she refused to reveal the children's names. She survived and continued her work, living by the principle her father had taught her.

Even though her father was gone, his love, guidance, and teachings remained unbreakable, shaping her into a hero who saved thousands. This story shows how the bond between parents and children, built on love and moral strength, can transcend time and even death.

How the modern day Mom can build trust and create an unbreakable bond.

Lead by Example – Children learn more from actions than words. Show kindness, integrity, and courage so they can internalize those values.

Be Present and Listen – Give them your full attention when they talk. Listening makes them feel valued and understood.

Encourage Their Dreams – Support their passions and ambitions, even if they differ from what you envisioned for them.

Show Unconditional Love – Let them know that your love is not based on achievements or conditions, but on who they are.

Create Traditions and Rituals – Family traditions, whether big (vacations) or small (Sunday dinners), give children a sense of belonging.

Teach Through Stories and Life Lessons – Like Irena’s father, share meaningful lessons that will guide them through life.

Allow Mistakes and Offer Guidance – Let them fail safely and help them learn from their experiences without shame or excessive punishment.

Protect But Don’t Control – Be their protector, not their dictator. Give them space to make choices while being their safety net.

Respect Their Individuality – Every child is different. Accept their unique personality and nurture their strengths.

Apologize and Forgive – Parents make mistakes too. Admitting when you’re wrong teaches them humility and trust.

Be Their Safe Haven – Ensure they always feel safe confiding in you, without fear of judgment or harsh consequences.

Celebrate Their Achievements, Big or Small – Recognizing their efforts helps build confidence and motivation.

By fostering love, trust, and respect, parents can create bonds so strong that they last a lifetime—just like the one between Irena Sendler and her father.
